Acute-Scaphoid-Fracture

This patient sustained a minimally displaced scaphoid fracture after falling on his extended wrist while playing basketball.

Through a 1 inch incision on the back of his wrist, a compression screw was inserted into the bone, across the fracture in an antegrade manner.  The resulting stability allowed rapid healing and return to activity.  The CT sagittal image reveals the screw buried in the bone with a reduced and healed fracture.

Therapy was initiated several days after surgery.  His final motion was full and painless.  He rapidly returned to all activities.
