Open Ligament Repair with Intercarpal Ligament Transfer

This is a professional basketball player who fell on the court and had immediate wrist pain.  This MRI reveals an acute, complete tear of the scapholunate ligament (blue arrow).  After the bones were positioned correctly, and the reduction secured with two pins, the scapholunate ligament connecting them was repaired.  In addition, the dorsal intercarpal ligament was transferred to add tissue to the repair site.  The pins were removed 9 weeks after surgery and the player continued playing professionally without pain or restriction.
