Modified Herbert Reconstruction
Operative Techniques in Hand, Wrist, and Elbow Surgery
Ed. Hunt TR, Wolters Kluwer, 2016

This procedure is done to treat painful instability involving the ulnocarpal joint of the wrist.  This is most often seen in tennis players, volleyball athletes, and gymnasts with pain over the small finger side of the wrist related to repetitive trauma caused by their sport.  The extensor retinaculum is incised (top image), sutured and advanced radially and proximally (middle image) to form a stabilizing sling about the wrist (bottom image).
